Vol. 6 Issue 1
This study examined the relationship between job sacrifice and employee turnover of mobile telecommunication companies in the South-South, Nigeria. The study adopted cross sectional survey method and the primary data was collected through self-administered questionnaire. The population of the study was 4 major mobile telecommunication companies, while the representative participants were 113 managerial employees drawn from the studied population. The study sample size adopted a census method; hence, the sample size is the same with the population. The reliability of the research instrument was determined using the cronbach alpha threshold of 0.70. Descriptive and inferential statistics were adopted. The test of hypotheses was carried out using Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Coefficient with the aid of statistical package for social science (23.0). The findings revealed an inverse and significant relationship between job sacrifice and two measures of employee turnover (turnover frequency and functionality effect) while not significant with utility effect. The study then concludes that job sacrifice had a significant negative relationship with employee turnover of mobile telecommunication companies in south-south, Nigeria. Therefore the study recommends that management of mobile telecommunication companies should enhance sacrifice by offering competitive compensation package, yearly bonus or incremental salary payments to employees that exceed their targets, favourable work schedules, flexible working hours, career development opportunities among others.
